Anthy cared deeply about her brother, the prince. She cared about him more than any other person in the world, but he could never make her a princess. Instead she must watch as he sacrifices his health to save every other damsel in distress. Even though he makes them princesses, they don't care about him; not like Anthy. One day she finds him in a barn, terribly sick and barely able to move. The people outside still beg, plead, and demand, "Save us!" even though doing so would probably kill him. Anthy begs him to stay, but he must be prince. He plans to help these unworthy people until de dies.

To prevent him from killing himself, she makes an equally brave sacrifice. She becomes a witch to save him. Even though the people will hate her, even though her brother might hate her, she seals him away.

Because she takes their prince away from them, the people stab her with the swords of hatred and she must live her life in perpetual misery. The part of her that is capable of choosing and truly feeling is hidden away in a coffin. Unfortunately the brother who she saved no longer exists and a devil with nothing but ambition remains. She cannot be his Princess even now because he is no longer a prince. She can be his servant, his co-conspirator, his puppet, his Rose Bride, and his whore, but never his Princess.
